My new shoes and I set off for a nice run up and over to Fashion Island yesterday. At just under 5 miles the shoes felt great and I didn’t pass out from the hills or the heat! To my surprise the stats on my Garmin showed that my avg hr clocked in at 175bpm. I guess it makes sense seeing as I had to deal with a few nice hills and some head wind. By the time i reached my destination i was plum tuckered out but still found some energy to pick up some cute new running shorts at the brand new Athleta store. I’m hoping to get in a few good long runs this week since I’ll be without a bike or pool while I work at Interbike View high resolution

It’s been a scorcher of a week. Been skipping the lunch runs in favor for after work rides. Managed to get it 20 miles with 1000ft of climbing today. I like climbing - well I like climbing on my road bike. I may be singing a song of a different tune when I try the same climbs on my TT bike. View high resolution

Line 2 seriously kicked my butt this morning. Boyfriend said I need to suck it up since I’ll be doing more 100s and 200s than 50s. I’m making my times and I feel like I’m getting my endurance back.

On a side note - I’m getting use to this wake-up-at-5am program. Wait - did I really just say that?! View high resolution

    bike + run

    +

Despite some pressing deadlines this week I was able to get in a pretty decent amount of workouts. The most tiring of them being Wednesday when I rode to work (~14 miles) then ran at lunch (~5miles).

Even though 15 miles on a bike is a short distance - I’ve been trying to keep my cadence up and get back in the habit of spinning with higher rpms. It’s so easy to click up a few gears and push a little harder - but if I’m planning on getting my HR up and keeping it up those light gears are where I have to be.

Now on Tuesday I set out on a light up the slightly inclined street and back. Logging in just under 3 miles I felt pretty good. I noticed I went back to my old bad habit of clinching my left hand (which sends pains into my shoulder) so when I set out for my Wed run I made a conscious effort to keep my hands limp. I’m happy to say that I completed the run with no problems or aches or pains. It actually felt really good to run a little bit longer. I know I need to take this slowly - but I’m anxious to get up to the 6-8 mile range!

I’m super excited to have a big ol deadline behind me and a big ol 3-day weekend ahead of me! I’ll be riding my bike a bunch this weekend and hopefully getting in another run.
