bike + run
+
Despite some pressing deadlines this week I was able to get in a pretty decent amount of workouts. The most tiring of them being Wednesday when I rode to work (~14 miles) then ran at lunch (~5miles).
Even though 15 miles on a bike is a short distance - I’ve been trying to keep my cadence up and get back in the habit of spinning with higher rpms. It’s so easy to click up a few...
flip turn
Thanks to Lindz I finally understand how to flip turn! It may seem silly and so simple - but it’s something that I’ve never fully understood how to do. It’s made my swims this week feel a lot more legit.

I joined a fitness center. Their pool opens at 5. I’m in the water by 6 then off to work at 7. This will be my morning ritual until I up my swim program to 1 hour sessions. At that point I’ll be hitting the pool at (gulp) 5:30 Thank goodness it’s heated …

got a few extra training tools this week. I’ll be using them sparingly and mostly to improve my technique. I like the leg bouy more then the fins - but that’s based solely on first impressions
I’ve increased my swim program by 10 minutes, adding a few more efforts and 6 laps each with fins and bouy. That puts me at about 30 minutes total - which is a good place to be for...
I had a weekend
I woke up pretty dang sore in the legs on Saturday morning. It was a good thing we had a double date set for the UCI Farmers Market that morning - my excitement over the array of organic and locally grown goods distracted me from the aches and pains. After an hour or so of trolling rows of impossibly fresh fruits and veggies we returned with a few bags of bounty. The highlight of the morning being...

The Bike!
One of the best bike mechanics I know put the finishing touches on my little speed demon yesterday and holy crap does it look good! The whole idea of a TT position is going to take a little getting use to. I took a light spin on it tonight on our indoor trainer. Everything felt pretty good, very different from what I’m use to, but good.
The only other time I’ve ridden in a TT style...

starting off slow
Since it’s been a few years since I’ve put in some pool time Jake thought it would be best if I take it slow. Even though I am super eager to get strong and build my endurance, I’m more then OK taking things at a casual pace for now. My pool training for this first week is fairly simple ; 5 minute warm up - a handful of 50m sprints - 5 minute cool down - 1x100m - casual laps...

Welcome!
A few weeks ago I got a message from one of my girlfriends asking me if I’d do the Oceanside 70.3 iron man with her. I thought - heck, why not? I love a good challenge! I love setting goals and find it’s a lot easier to train under pressure. I guess I should mention that although I’ve done each discipline separately, I’ve yet to string them together in the triathlon...
